Home Grown Writer Makes the Big Time
By Laurin Penland
Wilmington, NC – Wilmington native Lauren Collins went from New Hanover High School to Princeton, then to Vogue, and then to her current home The New Yorker.
She worked her way up the ranks of the magazine and was editor for its eclectic Talk of the Town section. Now she writes for both Talk of the Town and does longer features. Collins is not afraid to go for the big fish.
Among her profiles are the likes of Michelle Obama, Sonya Sotomayor, and Arianna Huffington.
We talked about her writing, about being from a southern town, and tips for up and coming writers. Speaking of Arianna Huffington, she says, sometimes it's necessary to show the good with the bad.
