Wilmington, NC – Wilmington's newest park will soon officially open in the Love Grove neighborhood.
The Archie Blue Community Park has a playground, basketball court, baseball field and a canoe and kayak launch.
Blue lived his entire life in the Love Grove neighborhood and mentored thousands of Wilmington children during his more than 30 years of service at the local Community Boys and Girls Club.
Love Grove resident Nadine Macklin says she's is happy with the new additions.
"I'm glad they redone it and everything and made it look nice for the children but I mean it was still a park to me anyway."
Macklin says she has fond memories of cookouts and graduation parties in the old field where the park is now.
The park cost a little more than a million dollars and took longer than officials expected because the site was once a landfill and dirt and debris had to be removed.
