Wilmington, NC – Tourism leaders in South Carolina are learning how social media can help boost their business in a slumped economy.
More than 450 managers and owners of hotels, theme parks and other South Carolina attractions are in Myrtle Beach for the 45th Annual South Carolina Governor's Conference on Tourism and Travel.
One of the things they'll be looking at is how to boost business by using social media such as Facebook and Twitter. Marion Edmonds is with the state Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism.
"I think one of the things the tourism industry are coming to realize is they have to use social media, they have to use the internet, to establish a relationship with their potential customers."
Edmonds says hotel bookings in South Carolina dropped 6.7% last year, but says he's hopeful state tourism will bounce back.
