Wilmington, NC – New Hanover County residents are being urged to call police if someone positing as a utility worker knocks on the door asking to come inside.
Wilmington police have received calls from two residents who say they received a home visit from a pair of men posing as Cape Fear Public Utility Authority workers. Utility spokesperson Carey Disney Ricks says in one case the pair of men split up, with one inside and the other outside.
"The other gentleman walked with her and turned the water on in various locations throughout her home. You know, one can only speculate what the second gentleman was doing, but certainly of concern that they shouldn't have been there in the first place."
Ricks says the two reported cases of home visits happened late last week. She says Cape Fear Public Utility workers almost never enter homes, working mainly along water lines.
