Wrightsville Beach Considering Historic Square
By Michelle Bliss
Wilmington, NC – Wrightsville Beach may soon be relocating donated homes to create a historic square.
Local nonprofits would be able to lease the relocated homes in the historic square, just like what the town's Chamber of Commerce and Museum of History are currently doing.
Wrightsville Beach Board of Alderman member David Cignotti says he wants the option to relocate more donated historic homes, so they don't end up demolished with new developments.
"The historic square to me is a way to preserve our history without taking away somebody's property rights and still being beneficial to the citizens, to tourists, and everybody involved."
Cignotti says the project would cost town residents some funds for laying water and sewer lines.
He has been working on the project for 3 years and plans to make a presentation at the April Board of Aldermen meeting.
