State Probe Into Voter Assistance Complaints

By Catherine M. Welch

Wilmington, NC – The State Board of Elections will be in Whiteville Friday probing into allegations that poll workers in Tabor City broke voter assistance laws.

The board is looking at a Columbus County Commissioners race where candidate Barry Worley says paid campaign workers crossed into buffer zones at a polling place during early voting in the May primary.

The State Board of Elections has subpoenaed 14 people for Friday's hearing including the Director of the Columbus County Board of Elections.

The State Board of Election's attorney says it's uncommon for the Board to travel to individual counties and conduct hearings.
