Wilmington, NC – This weekend, residents across the state can buy school supplies without being charged sales tax.
The so-called sales tax holiday is meant for back to school items like computers, books, and some sporting equipment.
Barry Boardman is a fiscal analyst with the North Carolina General Assembly. He says he expects a boost in sales, but it does not necessarily mean increased revenue for local businesses.
"Sometimes what this does is pull sales foreword or push sales off until this holiday, where it may not actually stimulate more sales, it just creates more sales in this particular weekend," says Boardman.
Boardman also says anyone can take advantage of the sales tax holiday, but there's a limit to how much they can buy.
