President Bush Dedicates Memorial At Ft. Bragg
By Catherine M. Welch
Wilmington, NC – President Bush will be at Fort Bragg Thursday honoring members of the 82nd Airborne Division. The President's visit coincides with the paratrooper's "All American Week" celebration.
The President's visit comes during "All American Week," a celebration of the tradition and history of the 82nd Airborne Division.
While at Ft. Bragg the president will address soldiers and help dedicate an expansion to the memorial honoring paratroopers who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The expansion comes after the original monument, a 12-foot granite column, ran out of room to etch the names of the dead.
Retired Sgt. Major Wolf Amacker says there was strong support for the new memorial.
"The biggest question I got was 'how do I help.' Not 'how much' or 'what are you looking for.' It was 'hey, how do we help.'"
The "All American Week" celebration resumes at Ft. Bragg after being cancelled last year due to the fact that nearly the entire 82nd Airborne was deployed.
