House Vote Expected on Affordable Housing Trust Fund

By Catherine M. Welch

Wilmington, NC – Lawmakers on Capitol Hill are expected to vote on legislation this week creating an affordable housing trust fund.

The Affordable Housing Trust Fund Act would establish a federal funding source to create 1.2 million affordable homes during the next ten years. Money for the trust fund would come from the Federal Housing Administration and Freddie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Congressman Mike McIntyre says he thinks the bill will do well before the full House vote.

I feel very positive about it because housing is something that does tend to draw bi-partisan support because we realize that nobody can realize the American dream if they don't have the opportunity to have their own home.

McIntyre and 12th District Democrat Mel Watt are two of the 103 co-sponsors of the Affordable Housing Trust Fund bill.
