Meeting for Wilmington Residents

By Megan V. Williams

Wilmington, NC – Speeding cars, pedestrian safety, and unwelcome barriers will all be on the agenda when residents of two Wilmington neighborhoods share their concerns at traffic meetings Tuesday night.

6th & Wooster

When the Department of Transportation installed plastic barriers at the intersection of South 6th and Wooster Streets in May, it touched off a neighborhood controversy about resident input. And it inspired the DOT to develop a comprehensive traffic plan for the Dawson-Wooster corridor.

Tonight people living along those arteries get to air their views during a meeting at Williston Middle School.

Mike Rutkowski, a consultant on the project, says his team wants to make the area more pedestrian and bike-friendly.

So what we're trying to do is help bridge back the disconnect between the communities south of Dawson and north of Dawson.

Military Cutoff Road

Across town, residents of a number of communities along Wilmington's Military Cutoff Road will meet to discuss traffic issues on their streets at a forum at the New Hanover County Library's Northeast branch.
