Fire Department's Temporary Sleeping Quarters

By Catherine M. Welch

Wilmington, NC – Wrightsville Beach Fire Chief Frank Smith says firefighters will operate out of the fire station under normal conditions until around 10 o'clock at night, and from that point on, operate out of the Harbor Inn.
They will bring with them two fire engines and an EMS squad.
Heavy rains from Hurricane Ophelia and Tropical Storm Tammy triggered the mold. Chief Smith says several patches appeared in the dorm area, and air quality tests prompted him to move the men out at night.
In a released statement, the town says mold has been a problem in the Wrightsville Beach Fire Station since February of last year, and says modular dorms are in the works and should be done by early next year.
Chief Smith says his men should be sleeping back inside the fire station by the end of the week.
