The film came out in 1950, and the musical hit Broadway in 1994. It took nearly 25 years after that for the noir classic Sunset Boulevard to hit the stage in Wilmington. Opera House Theatre Company presents the award-winning musical at Thalian Hall through Sunday, August 19.

Director Ray Kennedy loves the musical Nine so much, he's seen it too many times to count-including a performance in Swedish. (I don't think he speaks Swedish.) The show, presented by Opera House Theatre Company, is onstage at Thalian Hall through March 11.

Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, the musical that premiered in Wilmington back in February, is back onstage at Thalian Hall. The show is the centerpiece for Thalian Hall's New Year's Eve Gala with dinner, penny drinks, dancing, and more. The show runs through January 21st.

Get your umbrella-it's going to be Raining Men at Thalian Hall this weekend (and through March 12) with the premiere of the disco-drenched spectacle, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. You may have seen or heard of this 1994 film, but this is the musical, which premiered on Broadway in 2011. When the rights were opened up to community theaters, Opera House Theatre Company jumped on it. One cast member told me that the show is "thought-provoking and fabulously entertaining." Director/Choreographer Ray Kennedy agrees; listen above to Ray and actress/singer Michelle Braxton talk about the show and see photos below.

The musical 1776 premiered in 1969, winning 3 Tony Awards including Best Musical. Clive Barnes reviewed the original production in The New York Times, saying it was a "most striking, most gripping musical." Locally, Opera House Theatre Company produced the show 10 years ago, and they hope to hit a chord with the community again. This election season seems like a good time, according to director Ray Kennedy.

Last Weekend for "Carousel" at Thalian Hall

Mar 4, 2016

Opera House Theatre Company presents a short run of beloved musical "Carousel."  Final performances are Friday-Sunday, March 4th-6th.  Showtimes are 8:00 Friday & Saturday, 3:00 Sunday on Thalian Hall's Mainstage.

Ray Kennedy is wearing the director's hat and the choreographer's cravat for Chicago, produced by Opera House Theatre Company at Thalian Hall.   Ray and actress Michelle Braxton (Mama Morton) came into the studio to tell us all about the show-a fun conversation about the history of the show, Reality TV, and the top-notch performers in this production.
