On WHQR News, we’ll be airing a special at 6pm on April 29th – A Change of World hosted by Meryl Streep - on 91.3fm. A Change of World tells the story of how poets who were swept up in the Women’s Movement of the 1960s and 70s radically changed American poetry.

Governor Roy Cooper will be in Wilmington Monday, to discuss how the state can help with the GenX situation. It’s been almost seven weeks since the public first learned about the discharge of GenX and other chemical compounds by the Chemours company, in the Cape Fear River.

Join WHQR, Star News, and WWAY for a Public Forum on the GenX water crisis at Kenan Auditorium, Wednesday, June 28, 2017; 7 - 9 PM

The board made a big mistake in going from your core competency, [i.e. a] classical station to news. The airways are full of talking heads.

I have heard a couple of NPR segments lately devoted to music theory but only with examples from pop music or blues. However, I don't recall similar theoretical analyses of classical music, which in general is more complex. If NPR wants to explain music theory it should devote at least as much attention to classical music genres.

Listener Roger wrote to us on Saturday morning:

If you listen to HQR-News on 91.3, you're probably familiar with the voice of Isabelle Shepherd.  She reports local news every week and recently started hosting Weekend Edition on Saturday mornings.  All of us at WHQR are delighted to have Isabelle with us for another year at the station.  Listen to Isabelle talk about her radio work, her interests (like poetry), and her future plans.

Your stations do such a good job. Recently on Sunday Baroque, you had a Galliard on with bongos, tambourine and acoustic guitar. Why not throw in a Hammond H3 and a Fender Stratocaster and a set of back up girls?....  I had to cut the radio off. Sorry.

We’ve had plenty of good comments on Friday Feedback recently. Better fasten your seat belts for today’s installment.

Last August we conducted a survey of classical music listeners as we prepared to launch Classical HQR on 96.7. Now that it’s been on the, we’ve re-contacted with those who filled out the earlier survey and who gave us their mailing addresses. A few responses have come in, too few so far to draw any general conclusions, but some of the comments are … interesting.

We’re continuing to hear comments from listeners who like HQR News at 91.3, from those who can like Classical HQR at 96.7, and from those who would like to get 96.7 but can’t receive it. Our web site has a number of hints to help you, such as our Classical HQR web stream, the HD2 signal of 91.3, and more. We’re also investigating ways to get a repeater signal into parts of Brunswick County.
