Six candidates hoping to win one of three open seats on the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners gathered in the WHQR Gallery last night to talk about the county’s economy. 

Economic development was the focus at last night’s forum for New Hanover County Commission candidates.

The current set of film incentives is set to expire in 2014, and Republican state lawmakers have made no secret that the controversial package could be on the chopping block – as part of tax reform efforts.  At a New Hanover County Commissioner candidate forum last night -- sponsored by the Cape Fear Economic Development Council – the six candidates vying for three seats on the Commission offered distinctly differing views on whether film incentives serve the county.  WHQR’s Rachel Lewis Hilburn reports.

The six candidates for New Hanover County Commission discussed their ideas on economic development last night at a forum sponsored by the Cape Fear Economic Development Council. WHQR’s Sara Wood reports the candidates were asked to explain their solutions for the county’s waste disposal problem.

The three Republican candidates vying for the chance to face Representative Mike McIntyre in the November election spoke to a packed room inside the New Hanover County Courthouse last night.
