Thursday is the first day for one-stop early voting for the May primary election in New Hanover County. Voters will select candidates for local, state and federal races for the November general election. They will also get to decide on a state constitutional amendment on same sex-marriage. 

Many of this year’s New Hanover County primary candidates are gathering Wednesday night to express their opinions on local issues before voters head to the polls.

North Carolina’s election filing closed Wednesday at noon. Statewide, 13 contenders have entered the ring for a shot at the governor's post.
