Midday Interview with Jemila Ericson

Tom Briggs came in to talk with us today about directing La Cage aux Folles for Thalian Association Community Theatre.  The performances will be Thursday-Saturday at 8PM and Sunday at 3PM for two weekends on Thalian's Main Stage.

Today I talked with William Taylor about his 47 years with Scotland Yard and Interpol.  He’s giving a talk tonight at 7 at St. James Episcopal Church (in the Great Hall).  The talk is called “What is Justice?” and will address how to define fairness in a multicultural world.  The lecture is free and open to the public; a reception follows.

I talked to Dorothy Hodder, Public Services Librarian, and Scooter Hayes, Children’s Librarian, both with New Hanover County Public Library.  On Saturday from 10 am to 1:30 pm at Northeast Regional Library, there’s a great program called Story Extravaganza.  There will be storytellers, theatre groups, dancers, magicians, musicians, a ventriloquist, and kid hip hop!  Mr. Scooter will emcee.

Pat Marriott talks with Gareth Evans about Bellamy Mansion’s Jazz at the Mansion series.

Concert pianist Giorgi Latsabidze loves to share classical music, jazz, and rhythm and blues with diverse audiences of all races, ages and orientations – no limits!  He was born and raised in the Republic of Georgia, and has a doctorate in music from the University of Southern California.  He is briefly in Wilmington with his agent, Wayne Adams, to perform at Costello’s Piano Bar at 211 Princess Street.  At 5 pm, it will be a classical program of Chopin, Ravel, Mozart and others.  This evening, he’ll play two different sets in a jazzy vein at 9 pm and 10:15 pm.

Today I talked with Madeline Flagler of the Wrightsville Beach Museum, Gareth Evans of Preservation North Carolina and The Bellamy Mansion Museum, and Ted Wilgis of North Carolina Coastal Federation. 

Today I spoke with playwright Owen Dunne (left) and director Steve Bakunas (right).  Owen’s play Positions is currently at the Red Barn Studio Theatre and runs at 8PM Wednesday-Saturday this week, and Wednesday-Friday next week. 

I talked with Pat Holleman, potter, president, and original member of the Port City Pottery and Fine Crafts cooperative; also Iris Simmons, art quilter and original member.  The artists are celebrating their 5th anniversary at The Cotton Exchange in downtown Wilmington with refreshments all day Friday, then a party with wine, snacks, and hourly drawings for artwork, tomorrow from 5 to 9 pm. 

Today I talked with Diana Corbett of North Carolina Coastal Land Trust and Dr. Phil Garwood (Dr. Rocks) of CFCC. We discussed Fly Trap Frolic, a free family event Saturday from 9AM to noon at the Stanley Rehder Carnivorous Plant Garden behind Alderman Elementary School on Independence Blvd.

Today I spoke with Lou Criscuolo, who is directing Lend Me a Tenor for Opera House Theatre Company.  The lead, John Keenan, who plays Tito Morelli (The World’s Greatest Tenor), also came on the air.
