CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE CLOSURE: UPDATES, RESOURCES, AND CONTEXT

Primary 2018: Leslie Cohen Wins Close Race Over Gary Shipman

When the ballots were all counted, it was political newcomer Leslie Cohen who finished on top with 47.6 percent of the vote.

Three Democrats battled in the 20th North Carolina House District, for the right to challenge incumbent state Representative Holly Grange, a Republican. It was a close race.

Former Pender County Manager John Bauer, Wilmington attorney Gary Shipman, and activist Leslie Cohen all wanted the chance to be on the November ballot for the state House of Representatives.

When the ballots were all counted, it was political newcomer Leslie Cohen who finished on top with 47.6 percent of the vote. Shipman was a close second at 45 percent. Bauer was a distant third. Cohen wants the film industry back.

“And we have to really work to bring this industry back, and it’s not going to be easy. We need to bring back the permanent film incentives, I hate to go back to it but the maps go right into that. This was a political move, to send this industry to Georgia. It was just mean spirited.”

Cohen goes on to challenge Holly Grange in November.
