CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE: Updates, resources, and context
Soup to Nuts Live!

Jon McDonald Brings Pure Chicago Blues to WHQR's Broadcast of Soup To Nuts Live!

A steady influence on the soul of Chicago blues for decades, Jon McDonald has walked a path that few musicians could ever hope to tread. His 13-year tenure as band leader for Magic Slim & The Teardrops is, by itself, epic. He's worked alongside Hubert Sumlin, Koko Taylor, Junior Wells, and shared the stage with everyone from Taj Mahal and Paul Butterfield, to Rory Gallagher and Les Paul. A recent visitor to the Port City, Jon headlined the 2016 Cape Fear Blues Festival and has become a regular participant at weekly Cape Fear Blues Jams. He's also a hard-working blues musician who jets up to the Windy City when duty calls. As they say, "Nice work, if you can get it."

Jon's STNL! show includes a guest appearance by Wilmington's Nel Nichols, noted for her exemplary harmonica skills. Not surprisingly, Jon and Nel's pairing has the hallmark of two old friends who've been playing the blues together for years.

Tune in to WHQR 91.3fm this Friday, July 22 at 7:00 pm, and again on Saturday, July 23 at 9:00 pm for this special edition of Soup To Nuts Live! with Jon McDonald.

You can also tune in to STNL! via the WHQR website by clicking this link  http://whqr.org/ and selecting the 'Play' button in the upper left corner of the Home page.

A Wilmington resident since 1993, Lan began his tenure as on-air host for WHQR’s Front Street Blues in 2003, later adding operations and information technology to his duties, as well as production & logistical support for the long-running music series, Soup To Nuts Live!. He also provides images, video, and written content to WHQR.org.
