We are writing a fan letter to you. - Barbara and Tom

We are writing a fan letter to you. We can't tell you how happy it makes us listening to Gina [Gambony’s classical music] programs. She is so fun, so informative, and we love her taste in music. We look forward to her interviews, of course, too. There's an art to asking interesting questions and getting interesting answers. What can we say? She's an artist! Thanks for sharing her with us all.

Thank you, Barbara and Tom. To clarify, Gina is our usual morning host on Classical HQR, along with Pat Marriott on Mondays. Program Manager Bob Workmon selects the music for all their hours.

Coastline is awesome! I am a transplant from Colorado, and when I moved to the area last year I traded in my mountain bike for a road bike. That didn't last long. I have never been more terrified on a bicycle. The infrastructure is just not where it needs to be for cycling to be a viable commuting option. ( I commute from Carolina Beach to Wrightsville Beach) I fear for my life riding on any main thoroughfare, and back roads are even more dangerous. That being said, thank you to your guests for all the work they do. Over time I think Wilmington will be a great place to ride, and these initiates being discussed [on Coastline] are definitely a step in the right direction.

I enjoy listening to your extensive coverage of news all over the world during the day which beats the big networks hand a down. However do we have to have jazz music every week night? A little variation would be appreciated eg some popular music from the 60s and 70s for those of us not jazz enthusiasts or classic music buffs. Many thanks.

For listener Graham, we’d recommend sampling our Smooth Landings program, hosted by George Scheibner, every weeknight from 7 to 8 o’clock.

Marilyn sent us a lengthy hand-written letter, which read in part:

I am a 76 year old listener to your stations and a very recent convert to Public Radio, although I did on-campus shows many years ago when I was a student [at 2 different universities]. . . I have rid my small house of all electronic devices including TV and computer and live happily with my radio and books. Here is my problem: I depend on a radio approximately 25 years old that still operates beautifully but I need a second radio. I cannot program any of the models I have seen at the … store and dumped them in the trash. . . I have hunted Good Will stores but nothing showed up, also yard sales. . . Maybe some of your listeners have simple to operate AM-FM radios in their garages that they would like to sell.

Listeners, if that fits you, let me know and we’ll try to help Marilyn. Ordinarily I would recommend the SPARC HD radios offered by Amazon.com – I have one on my desk at work -- but that would be difficult to order for someone not on the Internet, and would require a little bit of programming also. Marilyn goes on to write:

I have very few complaints about your programming. . . [when Diane Rehm’s] interview with Joyce Carol Oates came on … I was spellbound.

We’d love to hear from you on Friday Feedback. You can always leave a message via email to feedback@WHQR.org. Our Feedback Phone is 910-292-9477. And thanks for your feedback.
