At WHQR, the Force is on our side. Our Jedi goes by the name of Jobie Sprinkle, AKA Jobie Wan Kenobi. Perhaps you noticed that we had some on-air technical difficulties over the past few weeks. The problem was that we needed a new audio vault, a piece of equipment that holds our recordings and puts them on the air (plus other things that regular people like us don't understand). Jobie Sprinkle is the one we called in to install the vault. He's been the Jedi engineer for WHQR for over 20 years.
While Jobie is not generally behind the microphone nowadays (although that's how he started many years ago while still in high school), he did give us a nearly 30 minute interview. In this selection, Jobie talks about WHQR's move from its original location on Greenfield Street to its current location on Front Street over 20 years ago-and the transfer of the soul of the radio. Listen above.
Jobie Sprinkle is the Director of IT and Engineering at WFAE in Charlotte and a great longtime friend to WHQR.
