It was last summer that the University of North Carolina at Wilmington said goodbye to Chancellor Gary Miller who left for the University of Wisconsin at Green Bay after three years at UNCW. This summer, the Board of Trustees announced that Jose “Zito” Sartarelli would officially take the helm July 1st. Chancellor Sartarelli comes to Wilmington from West Virginia University where he was the Dean of the College of Business and Economics. He was named WVU's first chief global officer in 2013.
Prior to his foray into higher education, Dr. Sartarelli worked with Johnson & Johnson as pharmaceutical group chairman for Asia-Pacific, Japan and Latin America. He also worked for Eli Lilly and Company for five years in Asia.
He succeeds William Sederburg, who has served as Interim Chancellor for the last year.
