In less than one year, the Cape Fear region has witnessed the resignations of half a dozen high-profile members of the leadership at UNCW.
Less than two weeks ago, the President of Cape Fear Community College, Ted Spring, suddenly announced his resignation. No reason has been given by either Spring or CFCC's Board of Trustees for the unexpected development.
Also announced last month, UNC System President Tom Ross will step down on January 3rd of next year. The news comes after the Board of Governors voted to seek another President—with no public reason given.
On this edition of CoastLine, we hear from three key participants in the leadership of higher education in Wilmington:
Woody White is a New Hanover County Commissioner who has been a vocal critic of county spending – including voter-approved spending for the community college. He is also a current member of the Board of Trustees at Cape Fear Community College.
Dr. Bill Sederburg is the Interim Chancellor of UNCW who is setting the stage for his permanent replacement. Dr. Sederburg has served as a Michigan State Senator, Commissioner of Utah’s System of Higher Education, and is currently a Senior Scholar at the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.
Jason Harris is the Chair of Cape Fear Community College’s Board of Trustees.
