Cinematique Presents: “Three Identical Strangers”

Three Identical Strangers runs from Monday, September 3 thru Wednesday, September 5. It screens Monday to Wednesday at 7pm with an additional screening on Wednesday at 4pm in Thalian Hall’s Main Stage Theatre.

Fresh from winning the U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award for Storytelling at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, Three Identical Strangers follows the true story of identical triplets separated at birth and reunited only by happenstance. At 19, their remarkable reunion becomes a global sensation as the media gets hold of their story, but also unearths an unimaginable secret that has radical repercussions. Revelations abound as the film dives deep into the hidden forces that shaped and distorted the lives of Robert Shafran, Edward Galland and David Kellman. In this surreal and surprising film, nature versus nurture takes center stage against a backdrop of highly questionable research ethics and superb storytelling.

From the critics:

The knockout documentary Three Identical Strangers begins as a goofy, believe-it-or-not tabloid story and slowly drifts into darker waters — the realm of horror, then of tragedy. David Edelstein, Vulture
Tim Wardle's engrossing and sometimes enraging documentary Three Identical Strangers about triplets grows darker and more disturbing, before developing into a shocker. Manohla Dargis, The NYTimes
