Starring Kate Winslet and Judy Davis, The Dressmaker from acclaimed director Jocelyn Moorhouse follows a glamorous woman’s return to her small town in 1950s rural Australia. The return sets off an explosive chain of events in this imaginative comic tale.
Based on the same-named novel by Rosalie Ham, The Dressmaker tells the story of the beautiful and talented Tilly Dunnage. After years working as a dressmaker in exclusive Parisian fashion houses, Tilly returns home to a town in the Australian outback to reconcile with her eccentric mother Molly. She also falls in love with the pure-hearted Teddy (Liam Hemsworth), and armed with her sewing machine and haute couture style, Tilly transforms the women of the town, exacting sweet revenge on those who did her wrong. (Runtime: 118 minutes, Not Rated)
"Moorhouse's adaptation of Rosalie Ham's 2000 novel may lead audiences to expect a primmer, more well-behaved movie based on its title alone, but that doesn't mean it won't have them in stitches." Justin Chang, Variety
"The second Winslet sets her sewing machine on the ground and snarls, 'I'm back, you bastards,' we're delighted to hear we're in for something fun." Amy Nicholson, MTV
