Homemade Holiday Shorts returns for its 23rd Anniversary Year with an exciting slate of guests, wonderful holiday music and a delicious feast.

For one evening each year in December, friends of WHQR gather in our MC Erny Gallery and around their radios at home to listen to holiday stories read live by a panel of entertaining guests. Our guests include wonderful radio legends, actors, writers and performers reading emotional and funny tales of the season.
Homemade Holiday Shorts is a live broadcast and begins at exactly 6pm on Sunday, December 9th.
Doors open: 5:20pm. Reception: 7pm.

The event is broadcast live on WHQR 91.3fm at 6pm. The MC Erny Gallery at WHQR is located on the third floor of 254 N. Front Street in downtown Wilmington.
Storytellers:
Beth Crookham is a storyteller, songwriter, film producer and lover of Christmas. For the last 16 years she has called Wilmington home and has proudly served on various community boards including Thalian Hall Center for the Performing Arts, Opera House Theatre Company and the #OverFlo steering committee. Her Christmas wish is that everyone would feel and share the love that this time of year is all about.
Following in her father's footsteps as a writer, Gwenyfar Rohler is the author of two books: Your Health is in Your Kitchen and The Promise of Peanuts. She also writes the Live Local. Live Small Column in our Alternative Weekly, Encore. You will find her most days at the Book Store where she is slowly cataloging the inventory. She loves to read play scripts, mid 20 th century fiction, and the classics.
Murphy Turner
A self-described Renaissance Nerd, Murphy has lived in our fair city for a decade. He came to us from New Jersey by way of the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Chicago. Murphy enjoys creating and destroying things, with the latter as his strong preference. Father of two, husband of one, you may see him occasionally onstage performing Shakespeare at Greenfield Lake, or on the streets of downtown looking very much like it’s still 1995 and acting like it’s 1975.

The Swing Shifters recently came together in Wilmington, NC as players and lovers of swing music from gypsy jazz to standards, originals to any genre as long as it swings.
Hank Blanton grew up surrounded by folk and country music. When he was 17, Hank's uncle gave him a CD of Django Reinhardt, and Hank has been in love with in acoustic swing and jazz music ever since. He currently also plays with The Phantom Playboys and Da Howlies and teaches introductory English classes at Cape Fear Community College.
