Hurricane Florence is going to cost North Carolina nearly $17 billion.  That’s more than the cost of Hurricanes Matthew and Floyd combined.

The updated figure is based on new data from the state Department of Insurance – and damage estimates could still change.  Floyd, which hit as a strong Category 2 in 1999, caused as much as $9.5 billion in damage.  That’s in today’s dollars.   Matthew, which caused catastrophic flooding two years ago, cost just under $5 billion.

Recovery efforts from Florence are still underway.
