Tracey Varga of Forward Motion Dance Company talks about performances coming up June 28-30 at 8 PM at the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center. Tracey founded the company in 2001 and is the principal choreographer and one of the core company dancers.

Lois Carol Wheatley tells us about her book, Images of America: Carolina Beach.  She will be at Carolina Beach Farmers’ Market tomorrow from 8 to 1, selling and signing books.

Julie Smith and Heather Bobeck are rising seniors in Vocal Performance at UNCW.  They are giving two concerts together:  Saturday, June 16 at 7:30pm at Little Chapel on the Boardwalk…and Saturday, June 23 at 7:30pm at Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church.  They will gratefully receive donations at the door to further their studies.  Both young sopranos are dreaming of a career in opera.

Gwenyfar Rohler of Old Books on Front Street, spoke with me about Bloomsday, a celebration on Saturday from 4:30 to 6:30 (or so), in honor of James Joyce’s masterpiece Ulysses.  A staged reading of the play within the book is being presented.    OldBooksOnFrontSt.com

My guests were Ben and Amy Wright, parents of four children, two of whom have Down Syndrome.  Amy has written a song to be used by the campaign Spread the Word to End the Word, which encourages people to stop using the words "retard" or "retarded," and speak of intellectual disability instead. 

Yesterday, I spoke with Joshua Heinberg of Down East Connect and James Algee of The Daily Special. They will be at Porters Neck Yoga Saturday from 11 to 1 and at Leland House of Wine and Cheese from 4 to 6, sharing information about the online Farmers Fresh Market and samples of dishes made from the market's products, distributed from James' food truck, The Daily Special. Philip Gerard talks about The Patron Saint of Dreams, a book of true essays which just won the National Gold Medal for non-fiction essays in the Independent Publisher Awards in NYC.  He’ll be our guest for Prologue Monday night at 7 here in the MC Erny Gallery.

I spoke with Ray Kennedy and Erin Sullivan from Opera House Theatre Company about Legally Blonde: The Musical.  Ray is directing and choreographing with co-director/choreographer Jason Aycock.  Erin Sullivan stars as Elle Woods.
