Lan Nichols
Host / Front Street Blues

A Port City resident since 1993, Lan began his duties as on-air host for WHQR’s Front Street Blues in 2003. He attended NCSU, Duke University’s Non-Profit Management program and he’s an honors graduate from Cape Fear Community College with an A.A.S. degree in Computer Engineering and certification as a Network Specialist. His career path has included programming, IT, web design, computer graphics, media & event production, and plying his trade as a first-call professional bassist with a variety of touring and local artists. His passion? “Producing episodes of FSB at WHQR’s state-of-the-art studios” he confesses.
His Tuesday nights are often spent at the ever-popular Cape Fear Blues Jam and his award-winning blues band, Tommy B. & The Stingers, plays everywhere. He’s directed the annual Cape Fear Blues Festival since its inception and ushered the Cape Fear Blues Society into the 21st century as president, board chairperson, and active volunteer. Lan’s advice: “Bring a positive message to your community and follow a well-lit path. Success is never far behind.” Lan admits. “Zen is doing what you love. Deep Zen is doing it with the knowledge that the results benefit all.”
Lan spends his most important and productive moments with his harp-wailin', accordion-squeezin', keyboard-playin’ wife, Nel. They share a home with a half-dozen cute cats, an upright bass, and at least 3 computers.
